Programs and agencies like Climate KIC and Amsterdam Impact offer grants, incentives, testing, and incubation to help climate companies get started and scale here.
Climate KIC
Climate KIC is headquartered in Amsterdam and has become an independent foundation after years operating inside the European Institute of Innovation and Technology. For founders the useful parts are its venture programs, notably the ClimateLaunchpad competition, which runs a Netherlands national edition, and its accelerator programming, alongside systems-level innovation projects that create demand for climate technology across European regions. It offers programming and small early funding rather than venture-scale capital.
Amsterdam Impact
Amsterdam Impact is the City of Amsterdam's program for impact entrepreneurship, and it has been running long enough to be the reference point for founders working on circular, healthy, and inclusive business in the city. It funds and commissions business-development programs, competitions with prize money, and mentoring, mostly delivered through partners such as Impact Hub Amsterdam, and it is where municipal interest in circular procurement and steward ownership becomes something a founder can actually apply to.
StartupAmsterdam
StartupAmsterdam is the City of Amsterdam's startup action program, presented through Amsterdam and Partners, and it exists to make the ecosystem legible rather than to accelerate individual companies. It maintains the official directory of incubators, accelerators, and investors in the city, runs an ecosystem map, organizes founder events, and takes delegations to European startup conferences. It is not a program a founder applies to for funding.
Metabolic
Metabolic is the Amsterdam circular-economy firm that works as a consultancy, a think tank, and a venture builder at once, which means it both studies material flows for cities and starts companies to fix them. Its venture arm builds and co-founds ventures rather than investing in existing ones, and the group has been behind circular living labs in Amsterdam Noord and food-system venture studios, so what is on offer is co-creation rather than a cheque.
Techleap
Techleap is the Amsterdam-based national organization set up to help Dutch technology companies scale, and it has recently split into a government-funded deep tech and ecosystem body and a privately financed foundation, so founders should check which entity runs a given program. It is not climate-specific and it does not invest, but it produces the most reliable data on the Dutch funding landscape, runs founder and deep-tech programs, and does the policy work that shapes the conditions for scaling.
Netherlands Enterprise Agency
Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland or the Netherlands Enterprise Agency is the Dutch national enterprise agency and the main source of non-dilutive money for a technology founder in the Netherlands, administering innovation credits, energy and sustainability subsidy schemes, and the research and development tax credit that reduces the cost of technical payroll. It is an administrator rather than a program, so the work is identifying which scheme fits and preparing an application, often with an adviser.
Amsterdam Economic Board
The Amsterdam Economic Board is the public and private network that sets innovation priorities for the wider Amsterdam metropolitan area, working across industry, technology, and health, and it does not run a startup program. Founders encounter it as a convener and coalition builder, which matters when a technology needs several large institutions to move at once, and its regional counterpart is the vehicle that actually invests.
